Kyle Kazan

Kazan began his career in law enforcement where he garnered his expertise in gang and drug identification / eradication. Soon thereafter, he was an advocate to end the war on drugs as a speaker for Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP). In 1991, Kazan began investing in distressed real estate and launched a total of 23 Private Equity funds.  The estimated value of properties currently owned and under management is more than $2 billion.  He served as a founding director for two opportunistic real estate funds, Grand River Properties and Dalton Berlin, which were based in Shanghai and Berlin, respectively.  Starting November of 2016, Kazan switched his focus to the regulated cannabis industry, and has since successfully closed four funds.  These funds consolidated into Glass House Group, which has assembled a portfolio of vertically-integrated assets.  Kazan holds a BA degree from the University of Southern California.


Farrar is a serial entrepreneur who began his career as part of the original team at Software.com, taking the company public in 1999.  Shortly thereafter, he served on the board of Seacology and was part of the founding team at Sonos, where he was involved with product design, development, sales, and customer support.  After Sonos, Farrar served as a board member for Heal the Ocean, was a founder and partner of ebook publishers iStoryTime Inc. and zuuka, and founded a Santa Barbara luxury rental company.  He ventured into the regulated cannabis industry by founding Elite Garden Wholesale, an agriculture technology company focused on developing products for the hydroponics industry.  Farrar currently sits on the Board of Directors of The Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation.

Derrek Higgins

Higgins has over 15 years of finance and accounting experience with expertise in preparing venture-backed startups for a public listing, representing shareholders and implementing comprehensive profitability and working capital plans.  Over the past 10 years, he has held various key roles including CFO of FLRish Inc, the parent company for Harborside.  During his tenure, he took the organization public in 2019 and implemented the public reporting framework, accounting policies and operational transformation initiatives across the organization.  Prior to FLRish, Higgins served as a consultant for The Brenner Group, LLC and Alvarez & Marsal.  He holds a BS degree in Accounting from Arizona State University and an MBA from USC Marshall School of Business.


Kato is a seasoned leader with nearly 20 years of experience in operations, finance, accounting, and technology across multiple industry sectors and consumer packaged goods categories.  Most recently, he served as the Chief Financial Officer and Board Director at Nissin Foods USA.  Prior to that, he co-founded and sold a digital out-of-home advertising company and completed several business transformation projects while with Nestle USA, Global Nestle Professional, Farmer Brothers, and Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group.  Kato began his career in Deloitte’s audit practice where he earned his CPA license.  He holds a BA in Business Economics & minor in Accounting from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MBA from USC Marshall School of Business.

Vilay Matuska

Vice President of Marketing -

Matuska is a veteran marketing expert with over 20 years’ experience in global consumer packaged goods across a variety of markets and categories. After beginning her career in Europe at Nestlé, she transferred to the US to manage the company’s Halloween candy portfolio and spearhead innovation for brands including Butterfinger® and Nesquik®. Next, she took her talents to Red Bull, where she led the launch of Red Bull Editions®, a Nielsen Breakthrough Innovation winner that generated $800MM sales in less than four years, capturing a new audience and fueling new relevance for the brand. Most recently, Matuska led marketing at GT’s Living Foods, a dynamic business in the fast-growing kombucha and wellness foods categories. A graduate of Ecole Normale Supérieure and H.E.C. Business School in Paris, France, Matuska is most committed to building and nurturing brands with purpose, utilizing undeniable storytelling and innovative marketing methods.


With over 25 years of experience in retail, Barry has developed, maintained and at times transformed retail for companies such as Nordstrom and Anthropologie & Co (an Urban Outfitters brand). Just prior to her entrance into Glass House Group, Barry served as Vice President of Retail for Green Thumb Industries, a publicly held provider of medical-use cannabis products serving key U.S markets. From 2018 to 2019, she served as a member of the executive leadership team that more than doubled annual revenue with elevating gross profit. Barry has launched twenty new retail locations across seven states. When asked about what has made her the retail powerhouse that she is today, Barry said “When I think about my contributions in business, it really comes down to one thing – relationships”. “When you can optimize long-standing relationships and strong teams, you have an important tool in driving business forward”.
